Kenyan athlete Hellen Obiri has done the country proud after winning the women’s 5000m at the 2017 IAAF World Championships at the London Stadium in London on August 13, 2017.

She delivered the win in the final lap after overtaking the defending champion Almaz Ayana from Ethiopia who was leading from the start. Obiri finished the race in the record time of 14:34.86.

The 27-year-old Obiri attributed her winning strategy to Vivian Cheruiyot who she claimed advised her to stay behind during the race and not attempt to move to the front and only do so in the last 400m lap which saw her bag the gold.
